Dave Jorgenson, or better known as the “Washington Post TikTok Guy,” took the TikTok world by storm when he first started making TikTok’s as a way to get through the long, unpredictable weeks of quarantine early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, Jorgenson is better known for creating informative content about current events, like this TikTok about an Icelandic factory that sucks carbon dioxide emissions to turn the gas into stone.

Dave Jorgenson manages the Washington Post TikTok account, and has become famous for his unique way of using trends to deliver news.

By using TikTok, Jorgenson is using trends that are growing on the app to lure in audiences, while also engaging viewers who have short attention spans but still want to keep up to date with news and current events.

He also, more often than not, tweets out his TikTok’s as well to get engagement on both platforms, and grows his audience on TikTok by spreading his content across platforms.

The “I make my own kombucha, I make my own candles,” sound comes from a popular reality TV show called Love Island. While the show itself is popular, the sound is not — and that’s where Jorgenson gets it right.

He uses the sound in a way that makes sense to the context of the story in the TikTok, while using a sound that only gets engagement cause it comes from Love Island. Now, he’s captured audiences of news and also audiences that enjoy watching Love Island.

The post garnered more than 174,000 views, over 22,000 likes and 174 comments, as of Sept. 14, which is extremely high engagement on an app like TikTok.
